2009 Charter School Hall of Fame honorees
"The second general session was hosted by James Forman, Jr., co-founder of the Maya Angelou Public Charter School in Washington D.C. Mr. Forman introduced National Alliance for Public Charter Schools President and CEO Nelson Smith for the annual State of the Movement Speech. Mr. Smith's speech was followed by an address by New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein and the presentation of the Austin Frum Scholarships by Charter Schools Development Corporation President and CEO Frank Riggs. Concluding the session, the annual Hall of Fame awards honored Josephine Baker of the District of Columbia Public Charter School Board, the Knowledge is Power Program and Don Shalvey of Aspire Public Schools."
